Does stacking quality tags actually help?
Does adding masterpiece, best quality and amazing quality make the picture better?
Almost every prompt opens with quality tags. The convention is settled enough that nobody checks it.
This one adds the tokens one at a time. To make it a fair test the quality prefix was cleared and the quality vocabulary was stripped from the negative — otherwise worst quality sits on both sides and cancels itself.
Every cut below shares one seed, one base prompt and one sampler setting, and differs only by the tag marked in amber.
What each cut shows
worst quality- The opposite end of the scale. It does not visibly degrade anything.
masterpiece- The single most-used quality token. Easy to tell from the
worst qualitycut, with thinner lines and softer shading, though neither has anything broken. masterpiece, best quality- Two stacked. Still hard to find the difference.
masterpiece, best quality, amazing quality, very awa- The full four. Set beside the first cut, it is hard to say which one was
worst quality.

Takeaway
On a modern checkpoint with an otherwise sound prompt, quality tags are closer to a cheap convention than a lever. Spend the prompt budget on subject, framing and lighting first.
How far this result reaches
Read this as a ceiling, not a debunking. On older checkpoints and at low step counts the same tokens carry much more. All fifteen quality tags moved the frame less than a nonsense token when measured here — under these conditions.
Measured on a single Stable Diffusion family checkpoint. The same tags can behave differently on NovelAI, Midjourney or another checkpoint. This is a reference point, not a verdict.
