Genre — one word rebuilds the world
How much does a single genre word change?
Genre is the widest-acting axis measured here. It brings background, lighting, props and palette along in one move.
This took two corrections. The base first said city street, and that one phrase overruled the genre — steampunk came out as a modern road. Removing the setting freed the genre and also freed the wardrobe, which the model then chose for itself. The version here pins the clothing and leaves the place open.
Every cut below shares one seed, one base prompt and one sampler setting, and differs only by the tag marked in amber.
What each cut shows
Cyberpunk- A corridor washed in teal neon — the strongest colour bias of the four.
Steampunk- Brass piping, gears and a round window. The architecture itself changes.
Dark Fantasy- Gothic arches and low saturation; the same dress reads heavier.
Dieselpunk- The weakest of the four — it lands in a bright interior with little genre signal. Pair it with machinery or interwar props to get there.

Takeaway
If you use a genre tag, take the setting out of the rest of the prompt. A named place will outvote it.
How far this result reaches
An open setting also opens the wardrobe. Name the clothing you want, or the model will choose.
Measured on a single Stable Diffusion family checkpoint. The same tags can behave differently on NovelAI, Midjourney or another checkpoint. This is a reference point, not a verdict.
