Dramatic treatment
How much of painterly lighting vocabulary survives into an AI model?
Chiaroscuro and Rembrandt lighting are centuries-old painting terms, and the words do appear in training captions. On this checkpoint, though, they changed the room and the props before the lighting they name.
These four rank near the top of everything measured here — saturated_red_light was first overall.
Every cut below shares one seed, one base prompt and one sampler setting, and differs only by the tag marked in amber.
What each cut shows
chiaroscuro- Named for extreme light and dark, yet the face and background came out evenly lit; what changed was the décor, with patterned wallpaper and a framed painting.
rembrandt lighting- Window light comes from the side, but the face is evenly lit and no lit triangle appears on the cheek; the brightest, most ordinary light of the four.
silhouette lighting- The subject is not darkened; she stays clearly lit. Instead, a second, all-black human silhouette appears in the dark doorway behind her.
saturated red light- Red covers the walls and the framed picture, but her white blouse and face stay untinted. The largest measured change of any tag here.

Takeaway
On this checkpoint the painterly lighting terms did not do what their names say. chiaroscuro and rembrandt_lighting drew evenly lit rooms, and silhouette_lighting added a dark human shape behind the subject. Even saturated_red_light, the biggest change, painted only the walls red, so choose these tags by their pictures rather than their names.
How far this result reaches
chiaroscuro and rembrandt_lighting overlap on this checkpoint, but not by calling up deep shadow: both gave evenly lit interiors that differ mainly in wallpaper and props.
Measured on a single Stable Diffusion family checkpoint. The same tags can behave differently on NovelAI, Midjourney or another checkpoint. This is a reference point, not a verdict.
