Focus tags control depth of field and what the viewer's eye is drawn to: bokeh, shallow_depth_of_field, tilt_shift, soft_focus, sharp_focus, motion_blur. Photorealistic prompts especially benefit from explicit focus tags because real photography always has focus plane — flat, evenly sharp images look uncanny and synthetic. Bokeh and shallow_depth_of_field blur the background and push attention onto the subject, which is almost always desirable in portraits. Tilt_shift creates a distinctive miniature-diorama effect useful for cityscapes and crowds. Soft_focus adds romantic, dreamy ambiance — common in fantasy portraits or period pieces. Motion_blur conveys action and dynamism; pair it with an action tag (running, jumping) for convincing movement. Skip focus tags on anime or illustration styles where the flat-sharp aesthetic is intentional.

Use one focus tag per image. Bokeh is the most versatile for portraits. Avoid sharp_focus if you also want bokeh — they contradict. Motion_blur requires an action subject to make sense; applying it to a static scene produces strange artifacts.
These categories pair naturally with focus tags — adding one tag from each builds a more cohesive prompt.
