Plain backgrounds — when only the subject matters

What changes when you empty the background?

Character sheets and stickers need the background out of the way. That is what the plain-background tags are for.

This group failed once. Emptying the background without pinning the framing let the model choose the crop, and it chose something unpublishable. The emptier the background, the more the rest of the prompt has to say — which is itself the lesson here.

Every cut below shares one seed, one base prompt and one sampler setting, and differs only by the tag marked in amber.

What each cut shows

white background
A clean white field right to the corners; the white blouse keeps its edge thanks to the outline.
black background
Black lifts the subject forward; the lighter the clothing, the stronger the separation.
gradient background
A tonal shift top to bottom gives natural separation around the figure — softer than a flat field.
two tone background
A pale grey rectangle sits in the middle of a white field; the tones are so close it reads as a frame, not a split.

Takeaway

When you empty the background, specify framing, pose and gaze in the same breath. What you leave out, the model fills in.

How far this result reaches

Plain fields pair badly with lighting tags — there is no wall or floor for the light to reveal itself on.

Measured on a single Stable Diffusion family checkpoint. The same tags can behave differently on NovelAI, Midjourney or another checkpoint. This is a reference point, not a verdict.
